Legon
CIEE Arts and Sciences Program in Legon, Ghana

Whether it’s the economic challenges that face developing nations or the unique music and dance that intrigue you about West Africa, you’ll get illuminating perspective here. Anchored in stability, vibrant Ghana has a rich cultural heritage and fascinating history of politics and social change to explore. As you learn the language and connect with students and other locals, you’ll open a unique window into life on the other side of the world.

  • Learn about West Africa out of the classroom, by living with a Ghanaian family, volunteering, interning, and observing day-to- day life.
  • Take classes with African peers and learn about West African performing arts, Twi language, African studies, social work, politics, economics, and religion.
  • Explore beyond Legon with field trips and excursions around this equatorial region.
 
This program welcomes students from all academic disciplines to continue they studies while they also learn about Ghana, its people, and the predominant language, Twi. Popular areas of study include political science, public health, history, dance, and music.

Students join University of Ghana, the oldest and largest university in the country. UG welcomes more than 39,000 students and 1,000 faculty members. Programs include agriculture (featuring three research stations), consumer sciences, arts, law, medicine, science, social sciences, business, nursing, public health, African studies, international relations, journalism and communication, population studies, statistical research, social research, and economic research. Courses are taught by faculty members from the University of Ghana.
