Program Description:
2018 Summer: UIP Summer Internship in DublinUVA_UIP_Dublin_masthead

The University Internship Program (UIP) Summer Dublin program is operated by the UVA Career Center and in partnership with the International Studies Office (ISO). With EUSA (www.EUSA-edu.com), a provider of high quality global internships, UIP provides highly customized internships in Dublin, Ireland for the UIP Summer Dublin program participants. Internships are available in a variety of professional fields: private sector business, political parties, law, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), hospitals, lobby groups, professional associations, and many more. Internship placement is determined by students’ interests, studies, experience, and professional and academic plans.

During the application period, students meet on Grounds with UVA Career Center staff and the EUSA internship team to discuss the internship process and requirements, as well as goals and expectations for an internship.

Academic Credit
Students earn academic credit through the Department of Sociology (Sociology 4800, 4 credits). The course is ungraded S/U and requires maintaining B- for an S. Satisfactory completion of the course will be based upon 40% performance in the internship as evaluated by internship sponsors, and 60% upon academic performance, as determined by course faculty. The course offers students the opportunity to actively reflect on internship experiences, and to learn more about the international workplace and culture within organizations. Via the internet and Collab, the "faculty on call" consults with students throughout the internship.

Accommodations
You will live in a residence hall on the University College Dublin (UCD) campus. Each intern will have a private bedroom and share a kitchen, living area, and shower with 4 to 5 other suite mates. There is 24-hour security and an on-call staff member 24 hours a day. There is an on-site convenience store. Launderettes are available in adjacent residence halls. Public transportation is within walking distance, as are a supermarket, restaurants, cafes, and medical clinics. UCD is 4 miles away from the Dublin city centre and offers transport services to and from Dublin. For more information about the residence halls visit UCD's website.
