Program Description:

The Chinese

of Hong Kong

Founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a forward looking comprehensive research university with a global vision and a mission to combine tradition with modernity, and to bring together China and the West. CUHK teachers and students hail from all corners of the world. In 2006, we have more than 5,200 staff members, approximately 10,000 undergraduate and 2,000 research postgraduate students. Of these students, some 2,500 are from 45 countries and regions outside Hong Kong. The 100,000 alumni are connected through some 80 alumni associations both within and outside Hong Kong.

Teaching Excellence
The CUHK education aims to nurture students with both specialized knowledge and wisdom for life. It is distinguished by a flexible credit unit system, a college system, bilingualism and multiculturalism. Our general education courses broaden students' interests, widen their perspectives, and develop their ability to face the challenges of contemporary life. Our seven faculties - Arts, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Medicine, Science and Social Science - and the new School of Law, with the Graduate School, offer over 330 undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Campus Environment
Our stunning 134-hectare campus overlooking the scenic Tolo Harbour is the largest and greenest in Hong Kong. We have 7 libraries, art museums, music halls, a swimming pool, sports fields, tennis courts, squash courts, a water sports center and gymnasia. The campus is equipped with 25,000 network ports.

Over 50% of CUHK undergraduates reside in hostels, which accommodate over 8,000 students. Undergraduate exchange students will be accommodated in on-campus student hostels owned and managed by CUHK Colleges. Students will share a room with one or two CUHK students who have expressed special interest in having a non-CUHK roommate. Single rooms are not available for undergraduate exchange students. Amenities in the undergraduate student dormitories include: furnished bedrooms with telephone and network connection, air-conditioning, laundry facilities, shared kitchens, shared bathrooms with showers, and common rooms with televisions.
