Third Year Core Abroad
Third year McIntire students:
The McIntire School of Commerce and HEC Paris are offering third-year Commerce students an opportunity to study international business in Paris during the spring semester of students' third year of study.
The curriculum is designed to provide the essentials of the courses you would have taken at McIntire during this semester, so you will not fall behind your classmates who do not study abroad. The skills you develop and the experiences you have in this program will surely be a very valuable part of your total UVA educational experience. HEC course offerings are extensive, and all Commerce students will find a good selection of courses that interest them.
During the term abroad, students must complete 24 ETCS credits to transfer as 12 UVA semester hours. In addition to those courses, Commerce students must also complete the online UVA-taught Global Strategy and Value Enhancement course, which will result in four UVA credits for COMM 3040 being awarded by McIntire faculty and counting in students' UVA GPA. Each student must complete at least two business courses to equal 9 credits from the course planning list. Those two courses, along with the COMM 3041 online course, will satisfy the spring 9 credit ICE requirements. Additional courses will satisfy appropriate Commerce School or University electives.
For more information, view our course planning information.
NOTE: UVA accepts transfer credit (no grades) for courses taken abroad; however, students must receive a grade of C or better on each course to transfer credit back to UVA.
Students must attend the McIntire information session and complete the online Education Abroad Workshop on the www.studyabroad.virginia.edu website. Students should then complete the online "UVA Commerce: Semester Abroad" application on the ISO website.
Students are offered on-campus housing from one of the residence halls or apartments. Single rooms are 450€ - 580€, and apartments for two are 680€ (340€/person). This monthly charge covers the basic rent, cleaning, and breakfast in the university restaurant. There is a refundable deposit of 430€ + 175€ processing fee.
Additional InformationThis program is an exchange program, with tuition being paid to UVA. Detailed information about this fee can be found in the online Education Abroad Workshop.
All UVA students are required to have both basic international health coverage and emergency assistance coverage when studying abroad. See the Insurance page on the ISO website for more information about requirements. Additional information and details about the program can be found on the HEC Web site.
